The One-Thousand-Dollar Revolution

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) has been the rally cry of the patriot since its presentation as a bill to be voted on by our representatives. From the outset it was known for the affront to our republic that it is. Today, November 2, 2010 we go to vote. For nearly two years we have been engaged in the fight to restrain the implementation of this bill. First, we took to the streets, not even as organized opposition yet, just a bunch of people who could see within the words of the bill the intent to enslave and subject the people to the dictates of tyranny.

Many of us have remained unorganized, but reliably opposed to the law. Others have formed groups and joined groups already formed. Some have used the groups they formed to oppose other illegal legislation and directed their efforts toward the new cause, the new insult to liberty. In all, it has been a great rising up of the people against the opening salvo in a war to end the very concept of individual liberty. Make no mistake, Obamacare is designed to make that one last leap toward socialism, to bring about the conflict that will leave, by judicial ruling, the Constitution in tatters and the freedoms guaranteed therein subject to further review.

The passing of Obamacare was intended as a challenge, a calling out of the defenders of the Constitution to put up or shut up. One might think that Barack Obama didn’t want to see all of the resistance and resentment the law has caused, but I think that is wrong. When an established force seeks to wage war against an insurgency the best way to expose the insurgents is to give them cause to reveal themselves. Is that not what we have done? Have we not brought our faces forward and revealed our names?

When I see the President walking back and forth on a stage with a microphone talking about the opponents of his prized legislation as if they are backward-thinking hicks who cannot understand his eloquent explanations of the benefits, I see a man frustrated that his price has been rejected. He appears to be chagrined by the repudiation of his offer, but that only fuels his desire to bring the resistance under his thumb, to “punch back twice as hard” those who would stand in his way. It is the nasty, little thug that appears at such times.

There is a lot of talk now, even in credible publications, of a coming “unrest” some even openly consider a civil war. This is not by accident. If it occurs to the reader that people like Barack Obama are egging on this conflict, I don’t think they are far off. I see no signs of correction, of taking a step back to consider the consequences of his actions. To the contrary, I see a redoubling of efforts. The Obama Administration appears to be digging in for the long fight. There is a supposition that the President will take advantage of the Executive Order to accomplish that which he no longer has congressional support to accomplish through traditional means.

The only question left to be answered is: When is enough enough? It seems to me that the little collectivists in the government, the good little socialists who daily staff the congressional offices, have included the signal flare in the legislation. As most know, there is a provision for compelling participation in Obamacare that requires one to pay a fine of a thousand dollars, maybe more, should they not purchase health care coverage from the exchange. This provision is the substance of several lawsuits being brought against the law by twenty state Attorneys General.

This is the moment, the dividing line between acquiescence and rebellion. To pay the fine is to agree to subjugation.

The Obama Administration and the hundreds of representatives and senators who have foisted this challenge upon the American people actually seek the conflict. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain. They know that if the American people swallow that pill, they accept the terms of slavery. The Constitution will never mean anything again, because in that act they acknowledge that government is unlimited and can compel the individual to do whatever the government shall dictate. Freedom stops there.

And, if there is a fight? Well, then the government gets to identify, vilify and incarcerate their opponents. What better way to round up the most able and ideological citizens? Why let them foment discontent and spread their fighting spirit when they can be taken care of in one short exchange? From their point of view, there is no downside to the coming conflict, because they are relying on the laziness and corruption of the American people. Why? Because they have encouraged the sloth and unprincipled behavior of our youth. They have allowed them all the imagineable excesses and distracted them with shiny trinkets and available drugs. The adults are no better with their programs and grants and subsidies. Why put a stop to the border invasion of drug dealers? Why put a stop to the immigration of people who have no respect for American tradition? Why put a stop to Islamist separatism? None of those things work against the goals of the anti-Constitutionalist statists, but for them.

So, what are you being asked to sacrifice for this refusal to pay the fine? Your lives, your fortune and your sacred honor. That’s all.

    Brilliant analysis and articulation.

From the perspective of the Left, the time to make such a move has never been, and probably will never be, better. And the Risk/Reward equation is in their favor, dramatically.

I think there are moments in history that support dramatic confrontations. These are the moments when everyone is singularly focused on the issue, have taken their positions, and passions are running high. There is often only a single moment when emotional outrage can give way to physical action.

With Obamacare, that moment came, and passed, when the vote was over.

The people of America accepted the new premise with a grumble…and nothing else.

Never again will such energy be focused on Obamacare as a single issue of the moment. There will be scuffles on the Hill, and debates on blogs. One day there may be tax bills in the mailbox…but those tax bills represent many small fights, not one collective and conscious fight.

I think they may have already won, and the last gasp will come once they have finished identifying their enemies, and move to take them out of play, premanently. They’ll win those small fights, too…

    Fascists, pure and simple.

What it will take for the country to learn its lesson remains to be seen.

Sometimes I feel fear. Then dread.

    But mostly I mourn.

    We’ll see what today brings.

    Great post, TL.

Brilliant evaluation of what the tyrants want the free citizens to swallow.
I, too, await the results of tonight’s election.

I think the push-back from the states’ attorneys general may put paid to those ideas of our enslavment. Last time I looked, our VA Commonwealth Attorney Genl had a favorable ruling…but that’s been a while.

Let’s see if his speech tomorrow has any indicators. Such a bloody whiner. And has no clue how to play “Cooperate”. Probably why Rahmbo jumped ship…

We will be sitting this fight out. Since my husband lost his job, we won’t have the $$ required to play. That is unless we can talk George Soros into hiring us when he has to take back our defeated Congressional rep in January. Tommy-boy Perriello, the one-term wonder, will be headed back to the Sudan to run his international justice dog & pony show, all funded by George.

Tommy voted Obama all the way, as he was told to do.

Factoid: Perriello called himself a “social entrepreneur”. Seems they take govt money to found NGOs whose purpose is to teach other NGOs how to get govt money too.

No wealth created, no productivity. They specialize in candlelight vigils at G8 and G20 ‘events’, and when not breaking up Starbucks, they send ’round petitions to be signed and sent to the Chinese govt protesting the jailing of dissenters.

I’ve written P., offering to help him pack.

Hope you don’t mind- I linked you. Too good to not and a great condensation of the situation and solution. Now, what we do about it will define us as Americans.

Jim Shy Wolf, thanks for the link and comments. It will.
Alvie Zane, thanks for the link and the blogroll. Geat speech.

Brilliant analysis….may this day go down in history as the day we pulled back from the brink.

There is still much to do, not the least of which is to make sure that the Republicans know that this is their last chance.

If they refuse to do what is necessary to save our republic, we MUST take steps to insure that they are no longer a viable political entity. By whatever means necessary.

USS Shakespeare – CVN 80 – “Unto the breach”

15 May 2012

OK, that may seem a little silly, but hear me out. We are not just in a fight for liberty and the founding principles. We are in an existential fight for all of Western Civilization. Sure, it would be nice to rollback 100 years of progressive nonsense and return to our (possibly imagined) Constitutional roots, but there’s more than that. Between the collectivists and the muslims, millenia of civilization (back to Homer, kids) are in …

Fidelity to Failed Ideas

12 May 2012

It’s terribly unfortunate that, out of an entire four-year cycle of politics, we’ve not seen the national economy recover in any substantial way. That’s a long time for it to be languishing the way it’s been. But it affords us a unique educational opportunity because we’ve been able to watch two presidential administrations — one archetypically liberal, running for re-election, and the other one whatever passes for “conservative” in this day & age, and not …

And A Soldier Dies

6 May 2012

When it comes to Kerodin’s Convention in DC, I am in. From the first day they passed the seat belt law in Colorado, 1986, or thereabouts, I knew it would come to this. I chaffed at the first sign of a government obsessed with my safety and knew that one day it would grow to the point that something would have to be done about it. It never stops at common sense, once they snare you …

Intelligence Is No Defense Against Absurdity

5 May 2012

Constitutional scholars do not impress me. I have listened to any number of them, including Representative Trey Gowdy, who recently ripped Kathleen Sebelius over the Obamacare issue. Okay, that was good and I enjoyed this video of the confrontation. Refreshing as it was, and instructive on the absolute ignorance of the Constitution and the Supreme Court and any measure of weighing Constitutionality against a bill put before congress that the Obama Administration has, even at the …

Their Work Will Never Be Done

1 May 2012

Today the world is different. Our nation is different. As Americans we are being pulled in different directions, called on by society to remain silent and acquiescent to the great ramrod of collectivism, or asked to risk everything for principles and ideals that are at the heart of Americanism, but no longer supported by our government(s). Indeed, to demand that the government recognize and operate under these very ideals upon which it is based is considered …

Trust and Retractions

30 Apr 2012

Now here is a picture that’s worth a zillion words… Look what’s going on there now. Green line is retraction incidents, measured in “notices” per 100,000 publications in scientific journals. Now, you could argue there may be problems with measuring it this way…but nevertheless, if the plotting is shaped like this, it’s gotta mean something. And the line more or less gels with public perception of the problems with science across time, if it doesn’t …

If The Darkness Descends

13 Apr 2012

Here’s the problem as I see it, whenever I attempt to communicate some ideas to the readers of this blog, I run into a problem. It is not that Romney supports guns and Obama wants to take them away, it is that every politician wants to take them away, either from an ideological police state mentality, or from a law and order, “make it safer for our guys, the government guys”, point of view. Does …

Drop The White Flag and Fight

10 Apr 2012

The announcement of Santorum only confirms what we all knew, that no matter who got the GOP nomination there would be a big-government liberal in the White House after the 2012 election. The announcement only sets the field. Santorum would have been no different, in my estimation, none of them would. I know I have been through this before, but there is no, none, zero chance that any government stooge will ever do anything to …

Studies

7 Apr 2012

So the kid’s here for spring break, of which today is the last day. The fiancee and I are driving him back to Nevada today so he can resume school. We had a blast with the go-karts and the trip to the shooting range, where I lost my .40 S&W virginity and managed a decently tight grouping in spite of the wicked recoil on the Beretta. Also upgraded his home-built with a new 2GB video …

A Step Forward

5 Apr 2012

It occurs to me that the best of us seek the justification of the Constitution to act, to not appear lawless and out of control. We seek some sort of sanctification, legitimization in our desire for liberty. We are not unreasonable about this, we don’t demand the destruction of our government, only that it would work the way it has promised to work. We want to be able to count on something.  In the face of that …
